Default distributor turns vs cam turns

Is 360 degree distributor turn equal to 360 degree camshaft turn. I want to know, cause I toke off the distributor for cleaning. Now when I turn the distributor shaft 360 degree does it fire right for the cylinder when I put it back to the head. Or do I need more turns to get the right spark for each zylinder again. Of course I try to NOT turn this ditributor shaft.

I think 360 deg turn won't be a problem. How about 180 deg turn. Will the shaft still fit?

You can do a 15120 degree turn (42 turns) and reinstall the distributor and it will be fine.

But, you can not install the distributor 180 degrees out. It is possible if you force it on but you will know that you did this when you start the motor. It makes an awful sound.

The cam and distributor are keyed in such a way that when installed properly the two just slide together nicely. But, when installed 180 degrees out they do not mate perfectly.

simple. put the motor on tdc for the #1 cylinder, pull the distributor cap, and install the distributor with the rotor facing the number 1 electrode (?) under the cap. it will be facing either #1 (correct! ) or #4 (wrong! )
