are 96-00 civic ex motors the same?

Default are 96-00 civic ex motors the same?

I have a 99ex I bought that needs a motor I found someone with a 96 motor will this swap right in.


sorry if this has already been answered but I tried searching and nothing with a real answer came up

If its a ex one its the exact same, d16y8.

The only difference is the '96-'98 would be OBD2a and the '99-'00 is OBD2b, otherwise they are all D16Y8's in the EX's.

thanks for the responses guys, and I am not the one putting it in my friend will be installing it for me. is there anything that will be effected by the fact that one is obd2a and one is obd2b?

If you use the wiring harness from the 96-97 you should be good, the 98-99 may be close i dont know though.

does anyone know for sure I am buying the motor to put into the car so I can sell it, and I cant have any check engine lights on thanks again

obd2a vs b - distributor plug different - swap distributors or use the other harness. Everything bolts up and plugs up the exact same motor.

Almost, the intake manifolds are different between the automatic and manual versions. Also '99 - '00 use have some air injection stuff on the intake manifold that the '96 - '98s don't have.
