Default What's good for cleaning an engine?

I'm talking about spray-on chemical stuff like Gunk or C2. I've tried most of the stuff out there, but nothing seems to get my block & tranny really clean like it came from the factory. Aside from bead/sand blasting, are there any effective solvents I can use to get my engine looking almost new?

I just use simple green and a hose. Spray it on, let it sit, do some light scrubbing and the rinse.

Purple Power and Power Wash. Just watch for wires and battery (cover them up)
