What effect will adding 60 lbs have on the performance of my car?
I know that adding weight is not good, but how harmful, performance wise, will it be to add about 40-60 extra lbs? Is that enough additional weight to even notice a loss in performance?
somewhere I have heard for every 100 lbs roughly expect a loss of
5whp to the wheels in acceleration...
5whp to the wheels in acceleration...
60 lbs is fairly significant...but what teken said holds true. what is this 60 lbs? Subs?
more weight = less speed. gotta deal with it.

Well I am actually adding some sound dampening material. Everyone who owns an Integra knows that it isn’t the quietest car on the inside. And with an exhaust and intake it just adds to the noise. After 5 years of enduring the noise I have decided to make the inside a bit more quiet. Now if I had the money I would just buy a Lexus or something like that, but I am one broke fool and all I can afford is about 60 sq ft of sound dampening material. (Each sq ft is roughly a lb)
Since my car is a daily driver and I don’t do any racing or bragging about how quick my car is (b\c its not), I have decided to do this. I was concerned, however, about the loss in performance, mainly b\c I don’t want to be driving around in a car that can’t outrun a minivan
. I dont want to make a slow car even slower.
I could just put the stock parts back on the car, but that would help much and I don’t have all the stock parts. And who knows, maybe down the road a little when graduate and actually have a career I can turn my little GSR into a weekend warrior and have a second car as a daily driver.
So any tips on applying the material would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the replies.
BTW I was thinking about using materials from this company.

These rubberized rocker guards of which you speak...where can they be purchased?
I agree wholeheartedly with the "daily driver" philosophy of noise...I have considered doing weight reduction on the Teg for a free performance boost. Then I realize that the cost would be an unbearable eighty mile commute.

Ah yes..I now know the product of which you speak. I thought you were talking about little rubber grommets/bushings before.

Thanks!

Thanks!
Why dont you just put 60lbs of weights and see how it feels?
I vote
for dynamatt soundproofing material
I had a ton of this **** in my teg durring the pro-audio days (ouch, what a mistake that was
)
Anyway, I went through at took all of it out to save weight - probablly a hundred pounds of it at least.
Took FOREVER, and I had to spend many long hours with a can of citrus cleaner and a rag covered in tar
Anyway, just think twice before you put anything on your car that is so hard to remove...

Funny, i thought of taking out the what there is of the sound deadening stuff. When i bought the car, it had dynomat in the trunk and stuff, yeah it took a looonnng time and probably weighed about 30 to 40 lbs. I dont have any carpet in the back right now either so its pretty loud.
that's equivallent 5-7.5 gallons of gas.
Just race with a 1/2 full tank. Fill her up, and then race again. See if you notice a difference.
Gas weighs in at 8.something lbs per gallon.
