just got a 04 ninja 250 with 1600 miles on her two days ago. The previous owner only put about 50 miles on her in the past two years. I took the carbs apart and cleaned the jets. everything looked clear. no signs of varnish in the float bowl.

symptom: high idle surge by itself. sometimes come down sometimes not. most of the time, i have to loosen idle screw to bring it back down and hold the throttle to keep her running.

also, tried to find air leak but couldn't find any.

any suggestions? i'm pretty much stumped on this one. any help appreciated

maybe a sticky throttle cable?

 

vaccum leak. Or possibly need the carbs synced.

 

bump... pulled the plug and found out she was running rich. adjusted the float and same problem persists.
