My Crx with B16a has been overheating on the race track lately. It is annoying not to be able to do a full 20 min. at a Time Attack event. The temp. fluctuates when I take a turn. Furthermore, my heater doesn't work either so I can't put the heat on when the car overheats. We checked the cables of the climate control and its hooked up. Normal driving, the temp. is at the normal position. I tried the water wetter and de-ionized water mix in my coolant but no result. Fan goes on and all hoses get "hot".
Thermostat problem? Electrical problem?

 

You need to bleed your system if it is changing in a turn. You may have air in the system. Your have a plugged up heater core is my guess.

Ask me how I know....I overheated at my 2nd track event at VIR.

I also suggest looking at thermostat and a complete COMPLETE flush of the system.

I made a major flush of my coolant and followed the proper procedure to refill the coolant system. Perhaps there is still bubbles in my system. How do we unplugged a heater core? And where is that located?

 

Alright, this time I purged the system again by unscrewing a screw on the connector between the head and the top hose. I did still have air in the coolant system!

However, still no heat coming from the air vent. I haven't tested the on the race track for overheating yet.

thats the standard way of bleeding the brakes.... what were you trying before???

s for no heat, your air mixture flap cables are loose. stick your head behind the center console and look up. you should see a white plastic lever and it should be obvious if the cables are loose and how to fix it. very common problem.

 

So what you're saying is the problem of "no heat from the vent" may be coming from the climate control?

OKay, find the problem! A plastic bracket broke on my climate control. So, because the temp. was not on hot, I was not able to do a proper bleed of my coolant system where air bubbles were still present. This explains why the car was overheating on the race track.:D

1) Broken mechanism bracket (climate control). Epoxy time!

hmm, thats what must be wrong with my GF's 91 dx also.. the heater controls in her car are the hardest things to move ever..
