I can see going longer, but that's excessive to say the least.

Make sure you have a spare tranny and AAA so when you bend/snap a shift fork, you aren't totally screwed...

yeah totally bro. either that or make sure that you extend the other end of the shifter out so that the leverage the driver applies stays the same.

Fastlane makes an awesome extended shifter. But its no where near as long as yours.

yes it is!i decided to make my own to see how it worked.piece of stainless rod, tapped on both ends-one end threaded onto a stock GSR shifter and welded, the other i inserted a piece of threaded rod and welded.
i cut the linkage attachment point off the bottom and added 3/4" of pipe there to shorten the throw to compensate for the added length up top.the throw is slightly shorter than a stock GSr shifter, but the **** is much closer to the steering wheel.
this one was thrown together,so it's kind of sloppy.my next one will be nicer-i'll probably TIG it and extend the bottom by another 1/4" or so to shorten the throw just a bit more.

not at all.with 2.5" piping, and the resonator right below the shifter,i still have plenty of room.i didn't have any way of easily checking at the time(i already had the exhaust off the car changing a couple things on it,and decided to do the shifter at the same time),so i looked at a short shifter i had laying around to get an idea of how much i should extend the lower portion.it was about 1/2" longer than stock,so i went 3/4" on mine to account for the extra length up top.i was also concerned about exhaust clearance.....like i said above,if i did it again i'd go about another 1/4" longer to shorten the throw just a little more, and i'd still have plenty of room before interfering with the exhaust.
