I don't have a short shifter. I'm thinking about cutting a bit off of my shift lever. Has anyone done this? I don't need shorter throws, the shifter just feels too tall for me.

A friend of mine did it on his EG civic, he cut the shifter and rewelded it, so like u said, it sat lower.

I have been debating doing that myself. I was just going to get it welded back. I heard that if your shifter is hollow not to do it. I can't tell that mine is, it feels pretty solid. I am about to install a short throw shifter, but I would like the shifter to be a little shorter as well.

I have a B&M short shifter on my 97 and I also cut the shift down and rethreaded it. This made a huge difference from stock. The stock shifter is long enough to be put in a diesel truck.

I also got a b&m installed.. looking to shorten the shifter now... is it better to cut it down then reweld, or cut it and rethread? where can I get these done btw?

Dave- have you removed the bushings in the plate for the shifter? that will drop the lever pretty good and might be what you are looking for
it will also stiffen up the throws

no not really, it doesnt change the geometry of the shift, and unless you use metal washers or poly bushings it will be just as mushy

i have contemplated a short shifter adapter, but i have heard many horror stories about cutting and welding. im also a bit concerned about the change in shifting length. my brother had one on his 94 civic, and now the gears in the tranny are getting fu@@ed because the sort shifter forces the tranny into gear before it is actually ready. on top of that, the lude tranny is notorious for bad 3rd and 5th gear synchros. so, if you put a short shifter in, and then you force the tranny into gear before the synchros can line up, it would grind the tranny into gear. just a few concerns of mine. if anyone knows anything else about this, i would love to have some info.

Well, I don't want to change the "feel" of the shifting action (I like the way it feels already), I just want to shorten the lever.
Oh, and since I have a non-threaded Momo ****, no welding would be required as the **** just mounts over the top of the lever and is securred with alan screws.
