Default **Overflowing Coolant Reservoir**

Hello there! I just self-install a new clutch in a month ago 2 my Honda Civic 94 and I noticed that my coolant reservior keeps overflowing when I drive a long distance? Does anyone know what's wrong with my car? My car doesnt seem to overheat or anything in that matter. I dont understand what is wrong?

When you check your coolant level in the radiator, is it low?

Are you over filling the res?

Well... I fill up the radiator when I empty out the reservoir. I dont complete empty out the reservior I usually leave it halfway between min and max level. After a long distance travel it fill up and overflows from me filling up the radiator. I dont know.

Have you changed the thermostat. Are your cooling fans coming on.

Is it my thermostat. Well I do have my turbo kit in and its kinda blocking my fan. I am pretty sure that my fan is running. Right now I have a tube connecting to my turbo boost to blow air into my engine. Umm... I am not sure.

Another thing is what does the inside of the radiator look like. you could have a glod radiator. Im not trying to be mean here. Thinking that your fans are on and seeing them on are two very different things. I would start with fan to see if it comes on. If it doesn't the try to connect it to the battery to see if it works. If it works then i would look into the coolant temp sensor that controls the cooling fan. If everything is working then i would replace the thermostat. Does the car overheat.

no my car does not overheat. do you think my radiator is clog? Or maybe perhaps my turbo front is blocking my radiator fan that its causing this problem. Possible Head-Lift problem? I dont even know what that is...

change ur radiator. more then likey there is blockage and when running more then a few cycles its backing up and having to be forced out.

btw try changing ur radiator cap 1st. ive heard if it doesnt hold correct pressure it will also do that.

since you mentioned turbo kit on, it might be headlift and you will need to replace your headgasket. just a thought. it happened to me before.

it's the seal on top of your rad to the cap, try a couple different caps you might get one to seal, and make sure there's no rust or anything where the seals go from the cap this is what happened to mt buddy's car he tried 2-3 cheap caps but ended up buying an oem and that solved his problem, it has on a 95 SI hatch, i would try this first b4 getting into the more pricey stuff

if the head lifted wouldn't you think he would have oil in the coolant. 98greensi if it was the seal on the radiator cap woundn't it be leaking from the neck of the radiator. or he could have trapped air in the system.

its a radiator cap. it will not look bad but usually it is. does your hood close on the radiator cap?

HI ALL... THANKS FOR ALL THE OPTIONS ON HOW TO FIX MY CAR. READING ALL THE POSSIBLES I CAN SAY THAT I AM NOT SURE IF ITS HEADLIFT FOR I DONT HAVE OIL IN MY COOLANT. THE HOOD DOESNT CLOSE ON MY CAP EITHER AND THERE IS NO LEAKING SO FAR THAT I KNOW OF BESIDE THE OVERFLOW. THIS IS A STOCK CAP AND I NEVER REPLACED THE RADIATOR EVER SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR. I'VE BLED OR BURPED MY CAR ALREADY AND SO FAR I STILL DONT KNOW. I BOUGHT A NEW CAP AND A THERMOSTAT ALREADY AND PLACED IT IN MY CAR. HOPEFULLY WITHIN A FEW DAYS TIME I WILL SEE IF ANYTHING HAPPENS. SO IF IT WAS A HEADLIFT; WHAT AM I TO LOOK FOR? I AM GETTING REALLY NERVOUS ONLY TO KNOW THAT THE POSSIBILITIES ARE GREAT.

i would bet 100 bucks it was your cap. your head wont lift unless your on stock head bolts with a turbo. and you dont blow a head gasket unless you over heat the engine real bad. hope if fixes the problem!

slow ur role lol. if you dont have coolant in your oil nor bubbles on your dipstick, im guessing your car doesnt have a headlift or a blown hg, if the thermo or cap doesnt fix next id move onto the radiator, is it green or any other color then a silverish color inside also look for rust near bottom or discoloring, mine was green inside lol and was for awhile before i changed it but when i did it solved my problems. btw i changed water pump timing belt everything last thing i did was radiator. and wish i would have done it 1st, altho the bearing in my water pump was bad but still. alot of unneeded work at the time anyways.

Im having the same issue about the reservoir overflowing after a long distance drive but mine does heat up after a long distance drive but when im stopped and if i drive the temp. goes back to normal. I tried replacing my thermostat and radiator cap and still had the same problom and then i tried replacing my radiator and i had the same problom. Could it be a water pump issue?? My fans are turning on my head gasket was replaced about 6 months ago(oem honda head gasket). Could it be possible for my heater core to be clogged?? Ive been told it is a possibility... but i dont know if that is possible. OP how did you solve your problom??

actually the rad cap has a spring that releases coolent into the over flow at a certain temp/pressure. if it was the cap it wouldnt go into the over flow it would over heat and drop out where the cap goes. id bet a 100$ its not the cap. the cap is doing it job
