Default Axles for 300whp turbo car

What are people running these days?..I'm currently on some stockers (on there way out, inner CV boot is torn on one) and I want to upgrade, hopefully without breaking the bank too much..i'd like to have some stage 2.9's from DSS, but can't stomach the $600+ price...The car is a 2300lb Wagovan and will be running 22x8's, or perhaps 23's...Any reccomendations are appreciated.

some guys get away with stockers at 500 whp and some cant even get away with bone stock cars.lol depends on how good of suspension, motor mount setup is. traction bar helps too. i run on Autozone axles 440 whp. has taken me 11.2's for over 20 passes

Yeah i preload and everything, and iv'e never broken an axle on any of my cars, but i drive it 150 miles roundtrip to race it so it's really just for piece of mind....what do you guys think about DSS stage 0 or some from raxles?

edit: the car has hasport mounts, a traction bar and AGX's, never get wheelhop even on street tires.

If you are going to buy axles spend that money ONCE. Get atleast DSS 3.9 or old DSS 5's.

One big problem with having good axles is that they can break too. If they break, then a stock axle wont fit into your hub and you are SOL! Just something to consider.

you make a good point.....but buying new axles from honda is ~600, if you get ones from the junkyard you don't know if you are getting somebody's old remans so that's why im considering the DSS 0's, just under $300 and supposed to be as good as OEM.

stockers are great. i go to the junkyard my friend works at and take them in for warranty i got 10-12 pairs of axles. i always take 3 sets with me to the track never know who will need a set. right beside that is a box of main relays coils and ICM's..lol

I understand that OEM axles will probably hold up.My oem axles are going bad though (boot ripped, all the grease sprayed out and now it clicks)......napa offers reman and new, i assume new is the way to go? I'd still like to here feedback from people that have used raxles or DSS stage 1 or stage 0, i just want something that is equal to Honda OEM axles without paying the $600+ that the dealer wants, and I have a hard time believing $60 shafts from autozone fit that description.

they do. thats what a lot of people actually have when they say stock axles. I ran pepboys axles in my 400+whp turbo civic for two years and never broke one. This included probably a hundred passes at the track on slicks too. its all about the preload.

Buy some spares at the autowreckers, a 32mm socket, and go racing.

"Upgrading" your axles will only cause something more expensive to break.

I broke more axles with 121whp than with 300-400hp. Driving/launching technique. I also believe an LSD helps keep axles in one piece.
