anyone know what i can do to keep the bolts on my downpipe/turbo to stop from vibrating loose, it keeps happening and its annoying as [freak] turbo is a garret .57 / .63

3" downpipe custom made, its an eg h22 euro r hatch

take to a welding shop and have them tack it once after you tighten it. but to remove you have to grind the tack so make sure everything is where you want it.

 

tack welds are definately not needed. I have the same turbo and a 3" down pipe and for my hardware i used allen head bolts with splined lock washers. That's the trick is to use splined lock washers...and then just tighten the hell out of them. I've had my car going for almost 3 weeks now and put about 1000 miles on the setup and nothing has come lose

 

Or theres always the old V-Band

 

bolts are crap.

just slap some studs in there.

then use these nuts, the same ones as honda uses on there exhaust manifold.



u can buy them from mcmaster carr, just a diff type of locknut

 

thanks for the replies guys! im gonna try using lock washers for now if that works great if not can i use thread sealant? like lock tight or whatever, that blue gooey **** or w/e

I have the same problem. I'm using studs with lock washers and it doesn't work. Definitely need to get some of those lock nuts

studs and flange nuts. the nord-locks couldn't hurt either

 

spring lock washers don't work, use locknuts.

 

Am I the only one that just uses a bolt? No washer... Never come loose. Just crank em tight and go... Three years on some of the bolts without them moving.

USe the allen keyed round head bolts. I have a custom 3" down pipe on my Garret turbo, 1 1/2 years and no looseness. I have had to pull them off a few times to get to other stuff but still they do not come loose.
Are you using hex style bolts? those I used on my turbo to manifold and they came loose alot, even with lock washers so I used thread locker on them also.

I use bolts too. I don't have the clearance for studs and nuts.

 

Nord-locks here.

 

If your using a gasket get rid of it and use a film of high temp rtv.These will also do the job http://www.stage8.com/

Never had any problems with the bolts coming loose on the downpipe.
