Default where should i mount my intercooler ...

i was going to drill two holes here .. and then the exact same on the top of the bumper support. i'd like to possibly keep me grille as well

but i wasnt sure if that would be too far forward, so i wasnt sure if i shoud do that ... or drill a hole here .. then mount the intecooler at the end of this bracket

what do you guys think would be the best spot.. and if i put it on that bracket .. would it be strong enough to hold it?

really, I would just get it as close to the radiator and stuff as you can to prevent bumper fit issues. As for the rest, if I'm not mistaken there isn't a ton of room to play with in there......so if I were you, I'd zip tie/support the IC in there how you're thinking, and try to put the bumper on and see how it fits.

if i mounted the intercooler all the way at the end of that bracket .. do u think it would hold the intercooler or do u think it wouldnt be strong enough and bend?

that bracket is a pretty solid piece of metal .. my intercooler is like 28x7x2.5

remember the bracket isn't the only thing holding the intercooler up, the piping helps too........but you have to remember this: IF you mount the IC to the car, you need to have hump hoses on either side of the IC to allow pipe movement since the IC piping is attatched to the motor and will be moving with the motor.

hump hoses are silicone couplers that look like this:

I I
I I
< >
I I
I I

It's got a section that sticks out like the arrow things point, which allows for movement. Hose techniques sells 'em, as does Vibrant, and I'm pretty sure they're called "hump" connectors.

When i mounted my intercooler in my DC, i mounted it directly to the bottom of the bumper support. I didnt inset it at all and it still fit with a little cutting of the plastic grill in the bumper.

I'd mount it as far back as possible without touching anything. After that, cut the plastic bumper if you need more room. I just threw my IC on and cut until it fit

if i mount the intercooler at the end of that bracket that i have in that picture do you think two of those brackets will be able to hold the intercooler firmly?

It should...the intercooler piping will also hold it in place. I've always used construction grade zipties to hold my IC piping up just in case. Its not a bad idea to invest in a few of them and put them in a spot where they cant be seen.

I keed. It's not an aftermarket 'custom' turbo kit without zipties somewhere doing something important.

I guess i'd have to show it to you for you to understand. I dont want debris and **** hitting a pipe and having the coupler take all the force. The piping is held in place with 2 black construction grade zipties and i'd give you $20 if you could find either of them. It does sound very ghetto-rigged, but i assure you, my IC piping isnt going anywhere

I just welded 2 strips of aluminum on the bottom of my Intercooler and lined them up with 2 existing bolt holes and job done, no zip ties no guess work.

If you decide on getting rid of your bumper beam, you can just bolt it to the lower crossmember and a small factory tab in the middle of the crossmember like this....

what is circled is where I use to have the intercooler mounted before I went backdoor, no drilling required..... arrows are obviously where it is mounted now
