According to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanium_nitride it's for cutting surfaces mainly.

Re: Titanium Nitride Coating for turbo manifolds? (wakedoe)
I just saw that today. There is a sponsor on here that use to sell it with their header. I want to know how it perform and if anyone have it on their manifold.

i called a company in fl about that coating a few months ago and they told me that it would serve no purpose other than to look cool....think i will stick to coatings that drop engine bay temps
still looks pretty damn cool though and i would love to see it on a ramhorn

Interesting, any places online doing this ? Would like to test it out on one of our manifolds.

just wipe your mani down with acetone before its first start up and it will do the same thing... or use rubbing alcohol and it turns gold, it should turn gold normally but all the finger prints usually messes that up...

i know, the alchol was a secondary option for a different finish...

Nice to know...i think i'm going to try this with my new manifold.

no promises, my friend did it on his edelbrock header and it now looks exactly like that picture...

No worries...if it doesn't work, it'll just be another semi-ugly part under my hood. I dont do things for show...as you'd learn in a hurry from seeing my engine bay

I don't think this will work, the material in these manifolds are a lot thicker. We will try it today or tomorrow though since we have a customers car here.

like i said, my friend did it on his header, which was actually an accident, he meant to use alcohol but used acetone instead and know his header looks like the one above, what concerns me is the amount of heat our turbo manifolds see compared to a header, but yeah that would be cool if you let us know what happens

Headers are usually like 16 or 18 gauge, usually the manifolds people are making are sch10 or sch40 which is a lot thicker. Thats why it won't change that color.

It doesn't magically change color if you wipe it down with alcohol vs acetone. They are both solvents and neither will leave enough residue to make any noticeable change in color. I have wiped down countless polished exhaust parts with acetone, alcohol, brake clean, lacquer thinner, tec clean, contact cleaner etc..and if they are made of stainless and get hot, they turn gold eventually if they are clean. sorry

As far as the sch 10 304 stuff its all relative to how rich/lean and how hot the car EGT's run. We've had headers turn all sorts of colors from blue, purple, gold, etc... I'll try dig up some pics.
