Default boost'n d16

alright guys im gettin ready to boost the ek. i just need to know how much boost can i run with a stock motor, with stock injectors. i planned on no more than 7lbs, but id atleast like to know whats possible. it should be relatively safe, im not a racer, and the car will be well maintained. i just want the nice feature of turbo so i dont have to down shift for hills, no have any problem in passing. also, i havent got the reprogrammed p28 ecu and obd2-obd1 conversion harness. is there any way i can get by without using those?

im sure you guys get this kinda pain in the *** question all the time, and will suggest the search function. for some reason i cant find anything. thanks in advance for your help

I believe 6-7lbs is the reasonable amount for stock internals. I think there are some other people running a little more than 7lbs

I don't know about you, but I said those exact same words "no more than 7lbs". And now today, when I heard my turbo relieve the pressure as it reached its max setting, I am looking forward to more.
For the rest of your question you need to read a bit in the FI forum.
obd2 is not programable.

1)First off what kind of d16 is it a y7 or a y8?

2) You can run the car on 8 psi safely . D series head can hold 25 psi stock . The bottom end is what gives out. I was running my car at 12 psi stock internals but with a tune no problems.

3) You cannot tune and obd 2 ecu just go with phearable.net they sell the ecus and harness's at a good price.

The most frequent d16 turbo setup is a Hf manifold with a adaptor plate then get a t25 turbo from a eclipse get some piping intercooler and some other peices and your set.

I would get a set of injectors eclipse 450 blue top injectors and a crx resistor box. Your gonna hit fuel cut. Hope this helps
If you have any other questions just message me.

yeah, i knew you cant tune the obd2 setup without a rediculous amount of work, that is why i said obd2 to obd1 conversion harness, and a chipped p28 ecu i was asking if i could get away without doint anything electronic at all for a little while

1 word for you bro........BOOOOOOOMMM!
That's what can happen,so why risk it? Do things the right way or don't do anything. That goes for everything. Remember half assed jobs always end up in, half assed results.

why the hell are you all talking boost pressures.....

WITHOUT DEFINING THE TURBO SIZE?

Talking boost pressure without stating what size turbo is asinine and ricer.

7psi on a t25 is a helluva lot less flow and power than 7psi on a t4.

psi has NOTHING to do with how much power an engine can handle with out defining what TURBO it is.

What exactly is PSI without volume? You can't have air at any psi without there being a defined VOLUME.

a T25 at 7psi flows considerably LESS volume than a T3/t4 at 7psi. What's going to make more power? The turbo with the larger flow, even at the same boost level.

So, where's the risk going to increase?

I dont even really know where to start on this thread, but i'll give it a whirl....

Chimmike seems to be about the only one giving any sort of useful information. Basing goals in terms of PSI is the n00b mistake of a lifetime. You need to base your goals in terms of WHP. For a D series, the safe limit is 220-240whp with the proper setup, fuel and tune.

Also, if you're looking for an EMS, the best method is getting a chipped P28 with whichever program you want/can afford. Personally i use Crome because upgrading to a Hondata system would be an utter waste of time for me. I wouldnt use any of the features that i'd pay extra for. A Crome chipped P28 is a great alternative to the other garbage offered on the market. If you're going for budget, this is the only reliable method.

Next time you have a question about your turbo setup, post in the Forced Induction forum. You'll get intelligent answers rather than just opionated hear-say.
