Default What is point of BOV and do I NEED one?

ok I am buying the beginner greddy turbo kit for my 95 civic ex. It doesnt come with an intercooler or a BOV. But do I need to get one? I mean if the kit doesnt come with one then Im guessing I dont really need one? The car is automatic so the throttle wont be closing when I shift. So what really is the point of it and the wastegate is an internal one on this kit so is it optional or should I really get one?

First off it always best to have a bov, it saves the turbo life because of compressor surge. The intercooler, you dont really have to have one if your not going to run a lot of boost, but its better to have one and is will help get the most out of your turbo kit.

makes sense...
now... blow off valves are needed on turbo apps. they extend the life of your turbo and they make cool sounds..lol..
they basically expel air that isnt used

as long as the op isnt going for a ***** to the walls setup he should be fine.... its a greddy kit so i doubt he's going for huge hp goals. Might want to do a little research on the auto trans and see where the weak points

I have a charge pipe from my old greddy turbo kit with a greddy bov flange already welded to it that i will sell to you for $25+shipping. it is the exact same pipe that you will receive with your kit, but with the flange very neatly and professionally done, all you have to do is bolt on a greddy bov. That being said, let me say that you will definately be able to get away without a bov because that kit is set to around 6 psi and there is just no need, but bov's do sound cool, i would use one anyway. next, let me tell you how much greddy effing sucks. every aspect of that kit is mickey mouse from the POS mitsubishi TDo4h turbo to its engine management system (blue box is a joke). Save yourself the trouble and buy the edelbrock turbo kit, it comes complete with intercooler, better piping, bov and flange already on the pipe, a better fuel management system, intake manifold, and a MUCH better Garrett T28 Ball Bearing, we are talking about like a 100WHP difference between the kits, there is a price difference and it is substantial, but Please trust me since you are for lack of a better word "chained" to automatic transmission, your options in power adders are very limited and this will be your absolute best bet as the greddy kit is not expandable in any way especially since you will not be able to use other means of tuning.

the blow off valve is for high boost aps, so the boost you build doesnt reverse itself and after you release throttle run backwords thorugh the intercooler and back to the turbo.... yea the turbo spinning one way and air pressure in the opposite direction.... it all depends on how much boost you run... by the way ever turbo app has one, most stock bov's just recirculate int the intake.... its just to relieve the pressure, after throttle release
