Default EGR & IACV block-off plates.

What are the pros and cons of buying/using the EGR & IACV block off plates on my jdm h22a? What do I do with the EGR and IACV plugs? Will there be any CELs with these mods?

I'm planning on buying both, but would like all the info I could get on these before hand.

Found them here for decent prices-

Why do you want to block those things off? You will definitely have CELs, especially if you're OBD2.

I'm OBD-1. jdm obd-1 h22a+jdm obd-1 p13 ecu in usdm obd-1 93 Si.

I've heard blocking off the IACV can cut down on idle issues...taking away 1 of the components that can cause roam. Not sure of any other pros, or cons of doing this.

I've heard that blocking off the EGR can produce a SMALL gain in HP and MPG.

Just trying to get some tried and true pros and cons from people that know about this fix.

Well, OBD1 will give you an EGR code and an IACV code if you unplug them.

There are lots of other easier ways to get your idle under control besides removing the IACV....I would think it would be harder to get a good idle without it... There is an official idle fix thread in the FAQs

Blocking the EGR won't do a whole lot. It lets spent exhaust gas back into the cylinders to keep temperatures down, but it can also cause a bunch of crap to build up in the intake manifold and such...from everything I have read the results of disabling are not too significant. Though I will say that I have mine removed for simplicity and a cleaner engine bay

My idle is perfect...I was just going for the clean factor as well.

I still may do just the EGR plate...for looks, and to keep my manifold clean. Took me 2 hours of cleaning with carb cleaner and a toothbrush to undo all the buildup from Honda's genius valve cover breather hose idea.

Is there any possible fix to the EGR CEL if I do this? Or is that CEL like the 4ws CEL...only shows when you're in service mode or running a handheld code reader?

Yeah, it'll clean up your bay, that's for sure

The IACV CEL comes up instantly and the EGR CEL seems to take a few minutes of driving before it pops up, but it will be there all the time. I cut the sensor off of the EGR and bolted it down on the frame rail so I could have it plugged in but still be out of sight. Hondata or other engine management systems should be able to get rid of the codes...

Ah...so I can plug in just the EGR sensor and hide it, and that solves the EGR CEL for good? I can think of plenty places to hide that thing.

Thanks for all the info.

is ur car tunable? blocking off the IACV will cause idle issues.. i think you mean FITV. (the one under the throttle body) the IACV is the one that is on the intake manifold..

and i think it might cause throttle response issues too.. I remember when my IACV was outta whack on my previous prelude, i got no throttle response until 3k.. which gets kinda dangerous and annoying, basically semi-launch mode.

I'm running a stock jdm p13 ecu, so no tune. I do want to swap over to a different ecu and tune eventually.

As for blocking off FITV...I've heard of people doing this to throttle bodies to get them to work/fit on a b18a1 intake manifold(which has FITV on it rather than on the tbody). I have no desire to block off my FITV unless there's a plus to doing so, and no downsides. If it's as simple as blocking it off/looping lines for a cleaner look, with no idle issues...I'd consider it.

The website I came across and linked in first post sells IACV & EGR plates(h22a). IACV plate would just be for cleaner look...but without a tune, it seems like it may cause me more problems than it's worth.

I have an EGR Block off plate, and I am rarely throwing a code for it. It seriously seems that I throw a code every other time the ECU is reset.

I have also just ordered that IACV block-off plate from Rosko as well. But my intentions with it are more than just slapping it on there.

Im pretty sure my IACV is shot, and Id much rather spend the 32 bucks for the block-off plate, rather than 150 bucks for a new IACV from honda.

Im going to be having it tuned soon, so once that happens I wont need the IACV anymore.

But on a stock ECU you will throw a code for it like stated above, and your idle will be [freak]ed up.

Lets see...

IACV good for idle, not bad.

EGR good for fuel economy, not bad. Not relevant regarding HP.

Pop cans, the best blockoff plates ever.

The EGR Code will not put the car in limp mode. So no real worries if the light is on

I echo these thoughts.
