I have some questions about this unit. Is it a knock detector wich retards your timing when it sees detonation? or does it rely on the boost to retard timing? allso i can not find a friggen web site for these people. I am just scared about greanading this motor. I know i know (KISS) Keep It Simple Stupid.. Arturbo..
jsut woried. i know that with 2.5 degrees of timing retard i will be fine but, whats every ones opinon on this?

the J&S ultra will both retard timing if it detects detonation and can also be set up to retard based on boost. very useful device if you're not going to run a standalone or if you are running an untuned setup.

edit - i just got a standalone. i need to sell my J&S ultra. havent set a price yet. anyone interested let me know.

yes, the features are independent. yes i ran one for about 1.5 years. it was especially useful with the supercharger. its worth every penny for the piece of mind if you dont want to blow up your motor. that was my main motivation for getting it.

edit - there are some people who do not like the J&S but most people that i have met that dislike it are looking for all out power and long term reliability is not on the top of their priority list...

You can use it, but a lot of the features of the Ultra Safeguard (MAP limiter, BTM function, mid-range ignition retard) are not needed with a standalone. The J&S Classic is a more standalone suitable unit. It does knock detection/retard only.
