Default ignition timing?

How much can you retard your timing by sliding the distributor all the way back? I have heard 3 degrees and I have heard 5 degrees. Does any1 know for sure???

The best thing to do is have your car timed with a timing gun. Just moving the distributor forward or backwards will not make the car run to its full potential.

bring back either .5 per lb or 1. my is 1 per lb of boost which is very conservative and safe.

I would need a BTM or something to retard my timing per pound of boost... I just wanna know how much I can retard my timing by sliding the distibutor so I can run 8psi and not detonate...

what engine management are you using? if you're only running 8psi intercooled...i wouldn't worry too much. just as long as you've got good gas you'll be fine. but if it for a piece of mind then i'd go .5* per lb of boost.

1degree per psi is a lot of retard. You don't need it retarded that much.

Not using EMS... Yes it is intercooled and I always run 93 even on all motor. So if I slide my distributor a lil I should B fine???

make sure you using a timing gun and pull the distributor towards you...not the firewall. i would even say it would be safe to do 1* per 2 lbs of boost.

Ok... By turning your distibutor it doesn t retard your timing per pound of boost. That is what BTM is for. I just want to run 8psi then 10psi. I need to know if I slide my distibutor will it be enough of a retard for that much boost.

If I had a BTM I wouldn t need to know if I could move my distibutor to retard my timing enough for 8psi....
