Default Cast Iron manifolds

So I read the FAQ on the cheapie cast iron turbo manifolds......but a lot of them left off early.

I know the big issue was boost creep. Is this something that was remedied by porting the #4 runner and wastegate flange?

Also, there's a cast manifold on ebay now. Looks to be cast steel. It's super, super cheap, but the WG flange is located more centrally, almost directly over the turbo flange. Seems to be a better design, and obviously the flow can be smoothed by the good ole dremel...........thoughts?

I'm not new to turbos or anything like that. Owned/built two turbo sentras (01 1.8 and 91 SR20) as well as a 350z which I installed a turbonetics kit on. I'm just blown away by the extensive honda aftermarket.

I've got a EK sedan (ej6) with a b18c1. Looking to boost it, make about 300-350whp. Will be doing pistons/rods/headgasket/studs to supplement, and eventually upgrade intake mani and throttlebody.

If you're doing a B18C1 and MUST do a cast log manifold, try this:

Smooth flow, no dremel required!

Spooling performance has GREAT prices on their log manifold combos. Check out the Forced Induction Sponsor's Only forum... https://honda-tech.com/zeroforum/49

I agree with the SPoolin log. Its going to be just as reliable as a cast manifold, but with all the advantages of a good manifold with good wastegate placement. Another option (that costs more than the log above) is the InlinePro SS manifold. It has great wastegate placement and has been proven (in T4 form) to over 750whp

interesting. I'll have to check them out.

there's one on ebay for $45 right now tho
that's almost hard to beat, really. even if it's a POS. It'd be something to play around with.

I'm fairly sure this is the manifold I'd buy on the cheap right now.

That manifold looks like crap especially around the collector (notice how it enters the collector unevenly). You also have to realize youre going to have to make a custom downpipe and dumptube ($$$). Just dish out the cash and get a good log manifold if thats the route you're going to go. 575 for Manifold,DP, and Dumptube that are top quality is a good deal ... http://www.spoolinperformance....3d169

Phil makes good manifolds, you're goals are 300-350. I made 380hp @ 14psi with my B18C1 using one of phil's log manifolds. Its worth the money. Hes a good guy.

you can find my setup here

$600 is more than double what it would cost if you have a MIG welder and a saw. You comment on the collector, well at least it has a collector vs the log which is just two cylinders firing away at each other. I guess if the collector isn't great, it is best not to have one at all.

Dumptube: $6 for the flange. $20 for the piping.
Downpipe: $10 for the flange. $30 for the piping. $30 for the flex. $10 for 2 O2 bungs.

Total: $106.
Say I'm off by 40%...(shipping costs and say my prices are inaccurate)
Total: $150.

So that plus the log manifold at about $100 is all of $250....Again, doing stuff on the cheap, this is the way I'd do things. In fact, with the money saved, you can buy a decent used MIG welder and use it to weld up your charge pipes, exhaust, and other misc stuff so either way you look at it, you are saving money.

I'm not saying he should do it this way, it is just the way I'd do a setup on the cheap.

Are the Blox cast iron manifolds any good? Anyone have any issues with them? Whats the biggest turbo t3 flanged that the blox manifold could support?

True, but he is looking to buy a manifold not make one.

If you want to take that route, you need to factor in the many hours of practice (that he could be working) and supplies you will use to learn.

With the money saved, you can also buy a beater to drive around because a novice welder trying to make a manifold will probably have it crack 50x over and over again until the entire manifold is a blob of weld.

Who said anything about welding the manifold? Maybe I confused some when I typed "log manifold" vs "ebay CDM cast manifold". I'm talking about welding the downpipe and dumptube which any idiot who decided to spend an hour or two reading Miller's information and decided to practice for another hour or two could accomplish with overwhelming success.

Gotcha... I thought you were suggesting to weld the manifold/DP/piping to do things as cheap as possible.

I can get all the flanges I need from atpturbo.com and u-bends from vrsexhaust.com I forget who makes mandrel doughnuts but I might need one of those too.

I have no problem fabbing a downpipe and intercooler piping, I've done it before, just takes time, tack welds, and good cuts. I'll probably invest in a good mitre saw with metal blade for the mild steel. Other than that, won't be too bad.

Thanks for the help on the manifolds fellas

the build is gonna be done on the cheap over a period of time. i'll be picking up used pistons (buying new rings tho) used rods, etc.
