Question on grinding in 3rd gear?
Recently I observed that when I shift into third gear I hear a clunk/ grinding. Im not sure if its gearbox or tranny...It doesnt happen when I downshift into third..Also Ive noticed that if I shift into third at a lower rpm(speed I dont hear the clunk at all) Anybody opinions will be welcomed..
I've also encountered this problem. Seems the clutch doesn't fully engage or something. My original thought was the clutch itself, but it only happens on third.
that happened to me.....
just the same
happened after i took the oil out , and fill the tranny again..... i added some mroe oil into the tranny and the grindind went away.....
now its on 4th,.... i tried a lof ot stuff but it still there.... i juts say **** it and get a hol dof another Si tranny....

synchros are going out or missaligned, thicker Tranny fluid will help a little, but not really fix anything. Trying to revmatch more can help too.
**** mne went away after changing to redline MTL. i had a horrible 3rd gear grind under 3000 RPM 2-3 shift. changed to redline, and no grind even at redline shifts now

as your local tranny GOD...
It is most likely worn engine mounts.
Also stay away from Redline MTL.

i agree with mista bone stay away from redline mtl. i used it and it seemed to work good until after a couple of months. then 3rd gear grinding be came a big problem again. just switched to the the honda stuff and felt 10x smoother than the redline ever did
I have the same problem going into 4th on a 4-speed trans. If I shift right into 4th it'll grind for a split second before going in but if I shift really slow and pull it into 4th soft it'll like drop into a detent and then drop into gear with no grinding. I figure I'll just baby it like that till I can get my B16A and 5-speed trans.
I have the same problem, but its only in 2nd and after hard launches(getting up to speed on the highway...) I figured it was the synchros...but if not...any other ideas? I figure it'll last me till I get a swap because it's not too bad...
