Default Having Fifth Gear Problems

I have a 2000 Civic Si. When ever i shift into Fifth gear i have to hold it in gear while i engage the clutch. if i decelerate any time after i am in the gear it will pop out of gear this has been an escalting problem for a few months and only getting worse. If anyone knows what could possibly be wrong with it feel free to let me know before I have to take it to the dealer.

Its the tranny, change the transmission fluid with GM Syncromesh Friction Modified and hope it goes away. it fixed my third gear grind after like a week.

Only downside, you're gonna need like 3 quarts, and they're like $15/each

Synchromesh solves all!

It will wash your car and bump up the output a little.

Have any tips on where i can find info on how to replace Fifth? I have taken it to the Dealer and they are telling me to remove the short throw shifter and if that doesn't work I should replace the entire Tranny through them their ticket depending on the tranny i want is between 2 & 5 Grand. For that i could by A Motor, Tranny, and Ecu. I might be screwed.

Most dealershipos won't service transmissions, they can troubleshoot and replace the whole thing if necessary. Try a local transmissions shop, they're not scared to open it and find out what's going on.

Have you tried changing the fluid? Have you checked seals to see if you are leaking fluid? I had a problem with a tranny coming out of 5th gear. Ended up being a ripped axle seal.

i was haveing the same problem and was cause i was low on tranny fluid. i put a quart in and no more problem. but check to see if you have a leak like what Aceman64 said. you shouldn't just be low on fluid it is leaking out somewhere.i have a hairline crack in my tranny that is why it leaks.
