Default What are the limits for the stock ECU?

What can the stock ECU handle ?
For people wanting to make positive changes but retain stock ECU for one reason or another.
In my case I would like to put a b18c1 shortblock on by b16a2 head and retain my ECU. If I use a JDM shortblock my compression will remain close to stock, but will the ECU be able to compensate for the added displacement with out throwing any CEL?

I would only need to run it in this condition for testing purposes and then I could conceivably use a chipped ECU and make other changes such as cam gears/shafts. Just need to know if this setup could work before I go ahead and put it together.

Any help is appreciated...

Thanks

What factory ecu are you running ?

The factory ecu doesn't "learn" or "adapt" to any changes besides knock & open/closed loop conditions, engine coolant & intake air temperature changes etc.

This is why tuning using an obd1 ecu & obd2 to obd1 jumper harness is necessary.

if you use a p30 ecu, you will be fine. Everything that the ecu bases its fueling/ignition on is on the head unless you have a crank sensor located on the oil pump.

I am sure it will be driveable, but it would probably be as effective to the extent of a basemap. I would highly recomend going to obd1 if u aren't already and have the car at a minimum street tuned. Tuning really puts the peices together on every setup so its something that shouldn't be overlooked.

stock b16 head, stock b16 ecu. stock block. Shouldnt run the car much different.

i am running a stock p13 on my 12:1 89x95 h23vtec and it runs it well enough to drive.

My ECU is the P2T.

So I'm guessing I would be running lean with stock ECU and the added displacement and that may cause me to throw a CEL and possibly mess my engine up?

Which engines have the crank sensor?

I doubt you will mess your engine up, however the p2t ecu looks for more sensors then you really need. Get your self an obd2 to obd1 jumper harness & a chipped obd1 ecu & be happy

The obd2 version of the p30 which is a p2t from 99-00 civic si b16a2 motors uses a crank sensor located on the oil pump.
