at the top of the shock(the actual threaded stud) theres a place for an allen wrench, put the allen wrench in and use a wrench to turn the nut while holding the allen wrench it will come off just put some *** into it.

There is a 5mm or 6mm allen key at the top of your stock shocks. Aftermarket shocks use different methods.

make sure the assembly is either in a spring compressor or point it away from your face and genitals.

I dont use a spring compressor...I just leave the shock hanging from the chassis and let it all shoot at the ground or use a jack to catch it and slowly let it down.

regardless of how long it's been off the car, it still has tension on the spring. The spring tension does not go away after the assembly comes off the car. The spring has a certain amount of preload onto the shock itself.

The springs have zero tension in them. I still haven't removed the assembly but I'm pretty sure I still don't need a compressor because the springs are all moving freely on the shocks. They're just loose with no tension.

i just lowered my car and it was a B*TCH! i snapped a ratchet, socket, lower control arm bolt, and ended up cutting my strut in half, then the nut to get the top hat off. the second strut i had an issue with i just took to my buddies shop and put an impact gun on it. It will break loose and then use the allen and do it by hand. never used a spring compressor i always just stood on the spring and used a board to catch/deflect my tophat and bolt towards the ground
