Leaking valve stem seals???
I want to throw this out there and see what people think. The issue that I just started having is, park the car one night, no problems, start it up the next night and let it warm up and the car starts smoking (blue smoke badness) when it warms up. At first the probem goes away with a little driving, but gradually (over probably 200miles) the probem seems to be getting worse. I have a fully built H22 turbocharged, and I'm not new to this at all. The first thing I did is, like it smoke in my garage, and then shut it off and pulled the plugs. Totally clean (im running E85) Not a sign of oil at all. Then I did a compression test, and all 4 cylinders are within 3psi of each other. That being said, oil does not appear to be going throught he combustion sequence, and doesn't appear to be a ring. So I pulled my downpipe and boost pipes, and they are totally dry as well as both fans on the turbo. So it's not going through the motor, and the turbo is not leaking. Being that the valve stem seals have not seen a very good life at all (been through a couple of problematic motors, had coolant, water, been through a hot tank, had the head off of the car for probably 3 years combined, dry) my thought is that the valve stem seals are leaking. I will be checking it out, but one of my friends (who is a mechanic) suggested that it was the oil control rings on the pistons, so that has got me thinking other wise now. Is my logic correct that IF oil is going through the motor is WOULD show up on the plugs. I have seen motor burn just a tiny bit of oil through a bad ring, and that one cylinder will show up different than the others, and the plugs tell you. All 4 of mine look identical. What do you guys think?

Do a leak down test. But you also have to remember that it might not just be the valve seals, it could be the valve guides which is over looked by people. if you have an air compressor and the tools you can replace the seals without removing the head. All things considering this is cheaper the removing the head to see if that fixes it. One another note of this. When does the smoke come out? Smoke all the time it would seem to be rings, smoke just when you step on the gas would seem to be seals or guides. Granted this is not a perfect way of telling it can give you a thought.
