Default problem with my 96 ek

alright this is my problem.......i just had my engine rebuilt and i bought a tuned ecu from pherable i had them program the ecu to engage vtec at 5800 rpms and the redline at like 7900 rpms but when i got my car back from the mechanic vtec didnt engage till 7000 rpms and i dont even know what the redline was set at because i got it to 9000 rpms and let off... now the question is do u think it is the ecu or the tach being wrong because the guy that had it before me put a si gauge cluster cover over my gauge cluster so its white and blue now but i never had any problems out of it before the new ecu im up for anyones opinion thanks

why do you need it to redline so high? are you sure it was set for the rpms you asked for? take it to a tuner and make sure everything is alright.
EDIT: i missed the part about Phearable.

the gauge cover sounds like it could be a problem, try hooking a external tach up to it see what you get. Phearable is deff a good company and i dont think they would mess up on burning a map.
*edit* google some pics of a si cluster and a cluster from your vehicle and compare the two and see what you have.

well see its the stock cluster but the guy who had it before me put a white si cover over it so he had to pull the needles off of it and stuff and i dont know if that could have messed with it or not but it never gave me any problems before i got the new ecu thats the thing

well i think what i am goin to do is hook it up to a scan tool and see what it tells me the rpms are and take it from there because i already talked to pherable and they said that they would be glas to exchange it for another one but i dont want to go through the whole waiting process if it isnt the ecu
