Default Weird starter problem

Okay, Well my hatch burns alot of oil, because of a piston problem that needs rebuilt. The guy who is going to rebuild my engine doesn't want to start on my car yet though because I have a starter problem, And he doesn't want to rebuild it without being able to start it up.
So whenever I turn the key, the fuel pump does not prime, and when I try to start the car up it makes a crazy clicking sound really quickly and the lights on the dash flutter with it, but it will not start. My buddy and I have switched the main relay out and nothing, I don't have a clue what this could be. Anyone have any idea?
Oh and whenever it does that it completely drains the battery. So you have to try and start it with the jumper cables on.

Sounds like a ground issue to me. Check your grounds and negative terminal, after that it the problem persist, you may check the alternator. I dont know however why the pump isnt priming, have you tried to do the jumper wire thing at the relay connection that they mention in the haynes manuals? If not that, possibly a fuse or wiring?

does the car start if you jump it with cables? if yes, you either have a bad battery or a fault in the charging system. if no, check your engine grounds.

A fault in the charging system could be a bad/loose ground.

The clicking sound is the sound of the starter secondary solenoid being energized but because the engine isn't turning over, the primary solenoid isn't engaging. Therefore, I'm going to say the battery is mostly discharged.

Well that's good you figured it out. The fast clicking sound is generally an indication that battery power is insufficient to even start cranking the engine over.
