Default NO VTEC!! Explain

I got a 1993 honda civic. help me out here. it's a 1.6 EX. witch should be a SOHC VTEC. but the valve cover doesn't have the VTEC stamp. can anyone explain this to me because it hasn't been replaced or swapped. could the cover been swapped so it just doesn't say VTEC. is there a quick way to check? it has power everything sun roof and AC so on so forth, that means it SHOULD be an ex. the D16z6 (which is VTEC) is the only 1.6 for a 1993 EX coupe so why isn't it VTEC. help.

yeah it is a vtec as long as it is d16z6 and u can look for the vtec solenoid and only 94~95 EX,SI civic has VTEC stamped on the valve cover.
i used to own a d16z6 single cam and it didnt have vtec stamped on the valve cover but its got vtec solenoid and d16z6 stamped on the block.

Why don't you look for the stamp on the block and post what the code is? It is on the pasengers side. If it is a d16z6 it will be stamped as such. Also look for a vtec solenoid off the side of the valvecover. If there's no vtec solenoid, then you don't have it. Post back with your findings.

the sad part about having a SOHC VTEC motor is it won't switch like a DOHC, so if you aren't paying attention you might not notice it.

some earlier SOHC VTEC motor didn't have anything on the valve cover. chances are you do have a vtec system, i wouldn't worry about it much.
