there is no D16Z6 non VTEC. I am pretty sure your valve cover sxhould have VTEC on it. Check the engine code stamp on the block...also check to see if you have a solenoid

If you have something that looks like this on the back of your valve cover (facing intake manifold), then you have "vtec"

In this pic, is on the side because it is from a B16, not a D16 like yours.

The SI hatchies are VTEC. Not all valve covers will have "vtec" stamped on them, for reasons i am just not sure of. The z6 also only comes in VTEC, nothing else.

Just to be sure of this, what does your block say? What is the engine code stamped on it?

not all vtec single cam motors say vtec on them but if you look on the block of the motor by the header there shoule be a square spot on the block and there should be a stamp saying D16Z6. there other way is to check for the solenoid it should it your looking unfer the hood from the bumper back the window above the intake manifold in front of the throttle bodie and next to the dizzy should be the vtec solemoind with a green plug should have to wires one wire id black with a blue line on it and the other wire should be black and there should be also another plug with one wire in it that wire is green with a yellow strip. that should tell you its vtec

Yea, thanks alot guys. I alrdy checked awhile go it is D16z6. I was almost positve about the solenoid, now i know why my valve cover has no VTEC imprinted on it.

Now if only I could get some one to answer my tech questions like people answer other questions.... If anyone is not busy and knows about dizzy's and things that will make my car not start please look here.

That made absolutely no sense, but I did know what you were trying to say.

Actually The D16Y5(HX) and D16Y8(EX) both have V-tec as well, the Y5 doesn't sound like more than a a wet fart tho. That's as far as civics go. You SI most definitely has V-tec, take your friend for a ride and take it past 5500rpm(not sure but close), then slap him.

I know the y5 and y8 are vtec, I wasnt saying they didnt have it, I was simply saying that the SI hatchies have vtec.

spark plug wires towards the front of the valve cover = VTEC (or VTEC-E)

spark plug wires towards the rear of the valve cover = non-VTEC
