Vtec or not?
Wuddup fellas
Recently acquired my eg with a d16z6 engine, but have a slight problem with recognition. I was under the influence that the d16z6 valve cover actually said vtec on it. While the valve cover is of no concern I was wondering how I would be able to tell if I have the full Vtec system or just the solenoid. Anyone got ways to check it out?

Re: Vtec or not?
That was initially my first thought to take, but my cat is clogged and was just wondering if anyone would know another way.

Re: Vtec or not?
pretty much.. its just a solenoid somewhere by the distributor i think [i dont got vtec, so this is just a 11:40pm answer]
im looking at my haynes manual and.. it gives me NOTHING. go look at ur ECU, its its a p28 or p2p, it SHOULD be Vtec [can someone verify this for me?]

Re: Vtec or not?
O.K. maybe I was misleading with my initial question. I know that the d16z6 is a Vtec model engine and yes I do have a Vtec solenoid. I was under the impression that the d16z6 engine had the Vtec valve cover in which case mine does not. In asking about my engine I thought that there was more to the Vtec System than simply just the solenoid.

... the solenoid is just the part you can see without taking anything apart. the rocker assembly and cam is where the real difference is.

Re: Vtec or not?
if you review the function of VTEC in the links below, you'll see what else is there... the solenoid is just the part you can see without taking anything apart. the rocker assembly and cam is where the real difference is.
