Default Anyone here running a GT28RS "Disco Potato"?

I'm looking into setting up a turbo kit for my AP1 to reach around 300-350rwhp, and wanted to know if anyone here is running a GT28RS turbo, also know as the "Disco Potato"? I think this turbo would be nice to help in low end power (NOT TOP END!). I'm aware that it starts to create boost around 2,000-2,500 RPM's, but for how many RPM's does it last for with a compression of 9:1, boosting 8-9 pounds? I hear that it's at full boost around 4,000-4,500 RPM's. Does that really mean that around 4,000ish RPM in every gear, the turbo is practically dead?

Note: Anyone hear in San Diego have a GT28rs set up that is willing to show me how it runs?

Thanks!

My buddy has one on his sr20. Peak hp was between 5-6krpms. Torque curve was flat as nebraska. Great low end grunt but still lacking in the top. he managed 350whp at a little over 18 lbs. perfect snail for a DD imo. Go for it.

That thing will be boosting at idle LOL

I hit peakboost ~9psi @ 3900RPM on a GT2871R

The RS should be at full boost before that by a long shot since i'm running a T3 .63 exhaust and not a T25 style.

My assumption is that it will not be good unless using a manifold that creeps to keep your top end like full race's manifold.

Bottom line though IMHO is that the turbo is too small, get something a little bigger

i agree with a bigger a/r would do it decent up top. but i would rather much just get a 30r to do the job. plus has a little more room to grow

In my experience with it, it will be fine. I did not drive a S2000 with it but it pulled all the way to redline and then some at 23 psi. It's a good little turbo.
