questions about a DX
welcome, noob! i do believe your dx does have power steering, and all the wires are there to install a tach......https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1909136
thanks man, i looked today where the power steering rack should be and its not there, so i had my dad look at it and same thing. its not there. i bought a used one from a junk yard for $35 so hopefully i can install that soon. and thanks for the link to the tach.
DX does not have ps. You shouldn't need it anyways. Civics aren't that hard to turn. lol! And if you get a factory gauge cluster out of an EX, it's just plug and play. That is easier than just trying to swap out the tach. Now if you get an aftermarket monster tach or something, you will have to wire that up yourself. So just get a cluster out of an EX and you will be fine.
The DX automatic had power steering, while the 5-speed was offered with manual rack only.
As far as installing a power steering rack goes, it will not be as easy as it might look. The subframe/cross emmber in the rear of the engine bay is different where the loop bolts to it for the p/s and manual rack cars, so either mods to your current subframe, or replacing the subframe with one from a p/s car will be needed.
You'd also need the hard lines, the pump, the high pressure hose, the brackets, etc.
It's way more trouble than its worth.

yeah i thought about getting a different cluster, but i plan on swapping out the motor sometime down the road so i was just going to do it than. but the cluster will probably be cheaper and won't make it look like im some 16 year old ricer wannabe.
its not that hard to steer at all, i just would feel a little more secure with it in. but i dont know anymore if i have to do stuff to the sub frame i dont think it'll be worth it too. and the guy who i'm buying it from said he'll give me all the lines and stuff so im not worried about that.
i am in a pickle now.
when i get a swap, it'll be a B series engine, when i do will i be able to have p/s in it or is it just like my current D engine and itll be a bizznatch to install?

The funny thing is people go to great lengths to get rid of power steering!!!
I personally do not like power steering on the Civics. I did a lot of auto crossing years back and p/s makes the cars feel too vague at lower speeds.
You can have have p/s with a B swap - my wife's 1992 Si hatch had it - but I would not go out of my way to add it on a car that didn't come with it stock.
That's just my opinion - I'm sure others might disagree.
BTW if you're a trial user keep in mind you have a post limit per day. Use them wisely!

My '94 DX hatch (automatic) had it, but when I did the swap to a manual GS-R I got rid of it. Honestly, you don't need powersteering...the only time that I (or anybody else) notices it, is when you're at a dead stop and turning the wheel.
As for the tachometer, instead of getting one of the Flavor Flav looking tachs (ok, he wears a clock, but you get what I'm saying
), why not get an EX/Si cluster? It plugs right in and takes about 10 minutes to install.

couple of things i just need some good old reassuring on.
an EG sir II cluster will fit into my old cluster gauge spot except now it will tell me the tachometer as well? i am thinking of buying one from HmotorsOnline, and i know how to install it, i just need to know will it fit and will it work?
other than that, i've decided to keep the no power steering, its more challenging that way and i love it. and i've finally got driving a manual down to, i do not fear you anymore, ungodly steep hill.
thanks for the info guys.

It's the same for the '96-'97 DXes. Autos had power steering (at least as an option - if not standard). It wasn't on the manual cars until '98 though.

92-95 civic clusters are interchangeable. The cluster with the stock tach will be straight plug and play. that means you unscrew a few screws, pop out some clips, unplug old cluster, plug in new cluster, and reinstall screws and clips. So yes the 92-95 SirII cluster you saw on Hmotors will fit perfectly and work perfectly(assuming it is good) in your car. You will have readings in KMph though.
I personally don't like power steering either. I don't know how to explain it... but i like the feel more when its on the road. It's perfectly fine once the car is rolling. It's hard to turn at a dead stop but that can be fixed by just start rolling the car.
