Default I need a tach!

i was looking on ebay, and i found a cluster for an 98 EX (i have a 98 DX). I have a 5 speed and feel much more comfortable with a tachometer, and i dont want a stupid rice one or a gauge pod on my pillar (lol why would i need 3 more gauges on a bone stock DX). I heard that even though my car has no tach, there is a hookup for it so that a cluster gauge with a tach will hook right up...is this true??? i'm dyin here guys lol HELP!!! oh and while i'm here, i searched and cannot find what kind of engine i have, like the model (i.e. B16, H22)...just the stock 105HP dx engine with no power steering sensor and no a/c...thanks alot guys!

d16y7

and yes, the clusters are plug and play. you can switch out the speedos too. that way your mileage won't be different and it won't show up on carfax reports...

D16Y7 was stock in '98 civics.

Not sure if that's a typo ... whatever, just clearing that up now.

That's important to take into account actually, that you don't have the Y8.

I do believe that the Y7 has a lower redline than the Y8. So with your EX cluster the redline will be 7200 RPM. Though a Y7 might not be able to handle that under pressure, so like, find out what a Y7 rev limit is, and just don't rev it passed there.

with the Y7, your fuel cut of is around 7200, so redline is like 6800 or something, im not sure, since there never was a tach for the Y7, just dont try to rev it to high, i have taken mine to red line a bunch of times and havent had any problems, there is plenty of valve clearance that you wont bend a valve on the Y7, they were made to last a lifetime almost, and take a beating too
