Default MOTOR DIED ON ME

I got caught in a mild snow storm on my way home tonight. As soon as I got home I immediately checked my CAI. It was compacted, NOT covered, but compacted with snow.

So here's what it was doing. As I would try to accelerate it would get up to 35 mph and completely stop allowing me to accelerate (Push on the gas and get nothing). After this would happen it would coast all the way until I came to about 3 mph and then allow me to accelerate again. It happened once where it completely shut down on me and the CHECK ENGINE light and BATTERY LIGHT came on.

The exhaust would also sputter as if it was clogged and then once it cleared a little it would shoot a big cloud of smoke (not sure what color as my rear window was not transparent at the time). I figure it sputtered because it was being suffocated for air by the clogged intake filter.....but what would cause the cloud of smoke? Was it just exhaust fumes that were backed up and finally let out? Any suggestions?

It could have been fuel, The motor was sending in gas thinking it should have getting the air it needed.

Did you pop the intake hose off and try a compression test or to fire it up yet?

Thats the funny thing. Whenever it died, it started up just fine. And when I would come to a stop it would do just fine w/ slow acceleration. As I said, I was even cruising at 45 and 35 w/ no problems until I tried to give more gas at that point.

The more load the motor is under, the more vital the air is.

What is your question?

Or do you just want us all to know what an *** you are for letting your filter clog up with snow?

Now I remember why I don't frequent honda-tech anymore.

What an *** I am? Read my OP again. I got CAUGHT in a snow storm. I did not do it by choice.

As to what was my question, they were cleary visible in the OP. You did ask me about it starting and so I replied. Then you criticize for me answering your question?

I can understand that. I was more or less wondering if I f@cked something up or if it was just because of the clogged filter. I was more or less bringing up the situation to see everyone's view point to help me figure out the problem.

Watch "House" and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Yeah clogged air filter will do that. Back when I was a ricer, I had one of those front mount air intakes and got off work about the time we got nailed. Same symptoms and everything.

Honda-tech is loaded with people like that. Bad thing is I used to like reading his threads, especially about the home made ITBS. He could have just said, yeah that was more than likely your problem and just left the thread. That would be to easy and not the Honda-Tech way of doing it.

And I love house. Waiting for the second half of season 4 to start up.

When someone makes a post that actually contributes something to this site or asks a question that may help others im more than willing to help or post in an intelligent manor.

This thread is just ridiculous.
