Default keeping my engine cool for the weekend?

i'm getting ready for my second autox on the 6th. i am going to change the coolant and install a lower temperature thermostat (pep boys has to be good for something...right) to try to keep the engine temp reasonable. my question is if i use water wetter, which coolant should i use? honda sells two types, one that is pre mixed and one that needs to be diluted. i'm thinking the one that needs to be diluted is the one i need. but does anyone have any input as to which one i should use?

well theone that needs to be diluted will call for a 50/50 mixture..so the diluted one prolly already has this done.

im curious..have u guys ever tried to run the long life PINK dex cool coolant that is put in the new chevys and other cars now? i hear it cools a bit better then green from my boss at work, and it doesnt break down ..i know it last pretty long time becuz we recommend dex cool services every 150k..just like chevy..so i wonder how it would do in a honda.

i seriously doubt that dry ice will maintain a cooler temp.

if you're serious, why not just run water and water wetter? that would offer you better cooling properties than water/coolant mix.

After your runs, pop your hood and turn on the heater...

i wouldn't suggest turning it on, because it would result in more heat production in the engine bay. just slide it over to red and leave the hood open.

The heater uses the heat from your coolant to warm up the air brought into the cabin. So it's kind of like a mini-radiator with air being pushed across it.

Hood open + heater on is a cheap way to keep cool.

Changing your thermostat is not legal for stock or STS/STX.

I would suggest water wetter with tap water if you are in an area that does NOT have heavy mineral deposits in the water system, if you are then distilled water and a quart or so of Honda/generic coolant for its anti-corrosion properties and to help in keeping the water pump lubricated.

Your supposed to use water wetter with water only, no coolant. Be sure to buy distilled water from the grocery store. BTW, I've tried running water wetter on several different cars. It never did anything to lower temps.

Also, changing to a cooler thermostat will not lower your coolant temps if your car currently heats up past the temp of the original thermostat. For example: If you have a 195' thermostat but your car hits 220' while racing, you will not accomplish anything by going to a 180' thermostat. All the thermostat does is dictate the coolest possible temp the engine will see when warmed up.

If you have a defective thermostat, then that is a different story and a new one might help.

thanks for all the help. my car didn't really have overheating problems at the last event. but since it's so hot down here i'm trying to be a little cautious. i think i'll just flush the system and refill with the recommended mix. maybe try the heater/hood trick. thanks again everyone

Water wetter and straight water does lower temps on the car. I used to be constantly at 195 or so in my car.. I removed ALL the radiator fluid, flushed it, filled it with a bottle of water wetter and some water.. Car is dead solid at 180-185 now.... Only moves up when i REALLY get on it.

I took it to california at buttonwillow and it was around 100 on the track and the car never got to 205 degrees.. Water wetter kicks ***..
