Default coolant question

My car is low on antifrezze, but I was wondering if I could use any kind? I've been using Honda anifrezze but its expensive. I remeber some one telling me a while back that Honda antifrezze had some stuff that helped and that using any other kind could be bad. So just seeing what others think, or what they use.

I havn't ever heard anything about only using honda coolant. I've been using prestone stuff in all my families cars for a couple years and havnt had any problems.

pure water corrodes your engine

if you want to run strait water you need to use redline watter wetter. you will be fine with this setup as long as it doesn't drop below freezing where you live.

I would buy the premixed Honda coolant.

When you mix normal tap water and coolant, you run the risk of corrosion in your engine and cooling system altogether.

"It's expensive..."

Yeah well so is an engine, waterpump, and radiator.

well it does'nt get cold here, even in winter 90+ is nice here. But I guess Honda premixed is what I'm gonna stick to then. Price does'nt matter when it comes to the life of my engine. Thanks B18C5-EH2

tap water has minerals and detergents in it that will corrode your engine.

distilled water is pure H2O y0

premixed. im too busy pimping to mess with mixing that **** myself.

but either way, never run pure water. it doesn't matter if it is distilled, minteral, tap, or God water. always use either watter wetter or antifreeze.

By the time you buy distilled water and a gallon of brand X coolant, you might be at the price of Honda premixed coolant.

Just a thought...

If it's a Sunday and all you can get is distilled water and mix it with brand X coolant, that's fine.

Honda premix is ideal though, but not mandatory.

Ok cool, thanks. I'm off to the local Honda Dealership to pick the coolant, and now that I'm more educated on the whole matter, I know what to use if I dont have coolant handy, thanks for all ur help.

i think im too late but, whats low the radiator or the over flow bottle?
if the over flow bottle is low jus add distilled water and you're done.
if rad low then do what you were told to do, distilled water and brand x
coolant/antifreeze

Wow, their is some f**king false infomation is here...

Thanks newbies...

Do not just use water unless your running an aftermarket radiator. Just water, or water and coolent not mixed 1:1 will decrease the life of engine a radiator. I recommend NOTHING but honda coolent Type 2.

*EDIT* Yes, I did not recommend mixing yourself unless you can accurately mix distilled water and coolent, then that should be no problem. Just remember if you do get the Honda Type 2 coolent it is pre-mixed.

OMG..use the dam coolant ..it keeps the seal s in good shape and keeps rust from developing..it also keeps ur waterpump seals in condition

id either go with a 50/50 mix of distill d water and prestone...or 40/50 mix of the same and top off with waterwetter

they also have that orange stuff that s suppose to last 50k..if ur going use that stuff make sure the motor and radiator are flush d out real good first

Prestone (yellow bottle / green liquid) is another that is safe for Honda motors. Doesn't contain any silicates. I asked this same Q a couple months ago and that's what I rock now
