Default VTEC NOT ENGAGING

having a issue with the b16 I dont think my vtec is engaging properly. im running a jdm b16A with p30 ecu, intake, stockheaders, & exhaust.
I kno i can forget about vtec when the car is cold so i take the precautions of warming it up for an hour.

I used to hear it at 5700 but now I hardly can tell if it crossesover anymore. Last saturday I raced a b16a2 hatchie with I\H\E and I pulled him no problem chirping 3rd effortlessly.

I askd him if my vtec was hitting and he said yes but wen im doing my morning runs through the neighborhood I dont hear it crossing over anymore. or prolly its not hitting as strong as b4.

I kno i do need to change my oil cuz its starting to darken.

can someone please shed some light?

It couldn't hurt to change your oil or maybe clean out your VTEC solenoid screen, but if you're not getting any codes, it's working just fine.

I've owned two different B16As and never felt VTEC "kick" like so many people claim to. I don't see what the big deal is, it's not like it's boost or something.

Well, I can definitely hear the difference after the x-over point, but it's not like it pushes you back in your seat. That's what i was saying.

If you havn't felt vtec put you in the seat you need to try different cams, type r cams
pull hard when vtec engages. Stock cams don't pull hard unless on boost.
Too bad about kills RIP.

you let your car warm up for an hour? Doesn't that seem a little extraneous?

Sure is a waste of gas! 10 minutes on a cold day should bring it up to normal operating temp

i think your just used to the sound of your car....i was curious about mine as well after a while but if your really confused nothing like ripping 4th and 5th on the highway...then youll know for sure if its working or not....besides you would get some check engine lights on if it didnt engage....and btw hows your oil pan is it dinged up, if so vtec wont work due to bad oil flow this i know for a fact....and make sure you have oil in your engine

check your knock sensor i had the same problem and it was the knock sensor...
and some times it good that you dont hear your vtec because of your powerban.

the less you hear your vtec the smother your poweban is.
the harder your vtec hits your powerban is droping befor vtec,
and the vtec is poping so hard to bring up the power back into place.

i had the same problem.
i dont hear my vtec at all but its working.
it pops at 5600 rpm's
i have itr cams and i still dont hear them pop.
