Vtec kicking in too early- Please help
I have a 94 honda civic ex with a jdm b16a swap, my vtec is kicking in at 2000rpms, i have a p72 ecu with it /not chipped...what could possibly be making my vtec to kick in so early??? Ill really appreciate any answers,

No i could feel the push of the vtec and it happens exactly at the same time revolution wise....its not a noise i hear, its just the pull and the jump i feel....im not complaining about the vtec kicking in too early, im concerned about the vtec kicking in too early, i know it could cause detonation some how and your car looses power anyhow with the vtec so early...

vtec kicking in too early could hurt the powerband. i havent heard of it causing detonation so i dont know about that but i would creep up in the rpms and listen carefully because if your running a stock ecu i cannot think of any reason why your vtec would kick in early. especially that early. good luck

they should because its slowing them down.
if you have the stock ecu it shouldnt be kicking in that early. are you positive its engaging at 2k rpm? have you tried pushing it to where it would normally engage?

Yea i am positive that the vtec is kicking in super early,...and yea i tried revving it to where it should engage at, around 5500 rpms and more and there is power but no vtec engaging ....i should just try a b16 ecu like a p30 or a p28 but for that i would have to buy it to then try and see if that was the problem...any suggestions?

if you have VTEC engaging at 2000RPM your car should feel like a geo metro until you get up to like 6000+rpm

No my car still got power, its not slowed down by the fact of the early engagement of vtech..., just that the push is coming in too early,...

it can't be. ive seriously never heard of vtec crossing over at 2000 rpms? come on man. No way it could be. espically with a stock ecu that hasent been touched. like the first guy said, its probably your intake/exhaust combination resonating. Look into it more and see what esle you can find out. Good luck!

buddy you dont have the oil pressure at 2000 rpm to active that on a stock ECU.
You have a swap now, it makes a little more power, not a big deal

Hey, did you ever get this problem fixed?
My b16a Honda Integra's vtec used to kick in at 5500rpm, now out of no where it kicks in at like 4700-4800. It's got me a little concerned.

The VTEC crossover point doesn't change on it's own in the ECU... it is likely that your tachometer is failing (common in many Honda/Acura applications). See if the redline is lower as well.
