Default anyone ever had this problem with vtec?

the problem is everytime i get on my little z6 powered civic enough to run it through 3rd gear, i eventually ( still in 3rd ) throw a code everytime. the code is 22, vtec pressure switch. it only ever comes on during a hard run usually in 3rd.

i have already tried different pressure switches, spool solenoids, ecu's , everything i can think of that would effect it.. and yes my oils good

anyone every encountered a similar problem?

thanks for any input/help

hhmm wierd I had the same problem, my vtec would cut out in hard runs in 3rd or 4th. I have a JDM ITR and it was throwing the vtec pressure valve code, but the thing is the jdm motor doesnt even have one... and I was running it with a usdm ecu. So all i had to do was tap the vtec pressure valve wire into the vtec solinoid wire and it works fine (constant 12 volts). But i dont get it because z6's are usdm.. I would check the wiring to the vtec solinoid. Sorry i couldnt help you more. Ill look into it

yea Ive had the wires jumped before and it did keep the code from being thrown, although i beleive it just masked my problem, because I dont think it should be losing oil pressure like that.. thanks for the help

I took the Z6 out my hatch to put in my 4 door. in my hatch the engine was using the original Si/EX harness, but i wanted to save that for my hatch, so i used the DX harness from the 4 door and wired up vtec. it took a few tries but i am positive i have it wired correctly, and i am even using a different virgin P28. Although, i still had the same problem in my hatch with the original harness. It still occurs in the 4 door.

yea it sucks, VSS is good, cluster and all is good.

i know single cam crossover is pitiful compared to dohc, but every other z6/y8 crossover around is very noticeable for a stock engine, while my engine has a cam/ported head and even higher compression, and there is no crossover..

it always led me to beleive that somehow ( call me crazy ) oil pressure is seeping out of the rocker arms enough that they arent pressureizing enough to engage the locking pins...

i have a whole nother rocker arm/lost motion assembly that I wanted to try on my head but someone told me that i couldnt swap the whole assembly out.. can anyone every done this and had it work fine?

Thanks

maybe by chance you have oil sludge and such in it, seafoam it and see if that helps.

Its coming along, put the fmic on today . Heres the thing that i seen in the manual that have to be right for vtec to work: Engine speed above 2500rpm, Vehicle speed above 3mph, water temp, engine load. Try looking at those and see what you can do.
