Help with springs and other future problems...searched and found nothing...s2ki no help either
Hey guys,im mainly on s2ki and after talking to a lot of people i have heard that the espelir springs ride like stock and have a nice 1.3" drop.
coming here i have read that they in no way ride like stock and make the ride unenjoyable...can someone shed some light?
ALSO
on s2ki i have read that when lowering the S the rear axles rub with the housing (excuse me if im using the wrong terms) and causes the car to shake.
ive been up and down the fourms and it seems like one person will say "OH I THINK I FIXED IT" and someone else will say "no that wont work, you have too..." and then someone else will say "nope, that wont correct it either"
i know theres a good amount of s2k out there that are lowered, dont tell me everyone has this problem and just deals with it.
1 MORE THING
any DIYs on how to replace the springs?
thanks guys
Espilers are decent. Many people have them and like them. They are your basic lowering springs. Little stiffer, slight drop.
As for a DIY, there isn't one on here. But it's pretty simple, you do need a spring compressor though since you have to take the stock assembly apart and install the new springs. (This is the hardest part of the install) Taking the assembly out and putting it back in is pretty simple and explanatory. Undo the bolts that hold in it, slide it out.

replace your shocks too. Running stock shocks on lowering springs work, but if you're looking for performance, you need a shock with valving within the spring rates you choose. If it's for looks, don't worry about what I just said.
ive heard from people that if you lower a ap1 you need the drive spacer and was wondering if you really did and wat does anyone think about tein S techs i loved them on my civic but dont know about on a s2k

let me clear some things up...
you dont need to run aftermarket shocks... replacing springs with stock shocks is quite alright... the S2000 shocks are beefier and can take the drop...
you dont need a spring compressor... you just need a friend to push down onthe top hat while the other screws on the nut...
espelirs will slam your ride... if your looking for a stock feel with a conservative drop the Swift Sports are your best bet...
with the axle rubbing issue, i think your referring to adding spacers... if you have an AP1 and are dropped more than 2 inches they are suggested... my car doesnt shake at all... i have a picture of my car(black with gold rims) on swifts vs my buddies (silver)with espelirs... notice the difference... ohhh and he scrapes everywheres... i will only on serious inclines at high speeds... since i was told that i cant host pics from s2ki heres the link:
http://www.s2ki.com/forums/ind...85114
and just in case i can heres the pic:

the best thing you can do is go to a local meet and check out what people are running... this way you get an idea of what your car will look like in person... hope this helps and good luck... the DIY will take around 2 hours if you have a competent friend, basic tools, and a few beers...
PM me if you need help... your located in buffalo and im in jersey so if ur ever in the area id give you a hand... i know its not that close, just give u a heads up... lmk... peace brotha

theyre the reason you need new shocks... they def drop your car more than 1 inch... look at the website... the table says 1.0 but this link http://www.skunk2.com/mm5/merc...e=LWR says 2.00 - 1.80"

WOW so the espelirs will slam my ride? I def dont want that! but its too late as they are sitting in my garage. I was at a meet and there was a red one there on espelirs and it didnt look slammed.

i really hope it doesnt ruin the ride. do you think ill have a problem with my axles rubbing?

i got espelirs and i got about a finger gap all around. Definitely not slammed but looks low from a distance.
I didnt use a spring compressor either...if you use a air gun, the top nut will come off fast enough for the spring not to pop off.

Im riding on Espelir ASD's im super happy with them. The drop is just what i was looking for ( minimal wheel gap but no tucking, I got oem ap1 rims with sotck size tires) and the ride is stiffer/more responsive. The instal wasnt hard and if your machenicly inclined you should be able to do it yourself. The only thing that was time consuming was compressing the springs cause I had an oldschool spring compressor and not air tools. Oh and dont forget to preload your bushings or the car will havu an uneven drop untill you rip through the bushings but then your bushing will be fuked.
hope i helped

Clicky
Towards the bottom of that thread it will explain it.
Another tip for removing the top nut, do it while the car is still on the ground before you do anything else
No need for a spring compressor and a lot safer than having your friend hold it, and allows you to do it by yourself.

I'm running Neuspeed springs on stock shocks, and i'm stoked with the result - dropped about an inch and a quarter - nice and low without looking slammed - no problems scraping, and a nice ride similar to stock (slightly stiffer) - until you treat it rough, then the ride is a lot stiffer.
I reckon my springs took about a week of driving before they fully settled down - that's when i took the car to an expert to check alignment, camber, toe etc. etc. - was well worth it.
