Help splitting tranny case?
Changing out input shaft bearing and am in the process of splitting the case. All bolts out any suggestions? Also had oil gunk build up in clutch housing thinking its a rear main seal. Any help is appreciated.
can't take the snap ring "OUT" until the case it apart
Remove the 13 case bolts, then the 30mm "butt plug" to access the countershaft snap ring, spread it apart which will release the countershaft, then tap upwards on the "ears" to seperate the cases.
92-00 atleast have pry points to make this easier.

True, but as long as you take out those 13 bolts, it should not be stuck like he mentioned unless he missed one. I assumed the case was off some what

I've had some 88-91 Civic cases that required some love.
Hint: Don't use Permatex Gray if you plan on taking it back apart with ease
Some of the SCCA trannys I serviced, fun getting then back apart for their winter checkups.
If I remember, I'll take pics tomorrow since I'm building a SCCA F Prod CRX tranny for a member here.

What about the reverse shaft bolt? I know b-series, you have to take this out too before separating.

Mista, i haven't seen you in some time. Here is a question for you. I was driving the other night, and 5th just went out.. It feels and acts like N now... WTF? You think it could be a bent shift fork?
splitting a D series cable case, the easy way......
first, always set the tranny up off the workbench, 2x4's are great and free scrap

then I prop up the tranny using a shift rod from an old SOHC tranny

Just tap the case with a hammer on the flat spot and it'll come apart, just take your time. One the case is split all the way around, spread the lock ring with these

easy once you've done it a few hundred times.

Just split the case and figure it out.
