Default Wierd starter Problem.

My Friend has a 2000 Si and the starter recently went out. Before it worked fine that after a couple of months it started acting wierd as hell. It would click like 5 times. try to turn the motor twice then finally would start it up. Now it just doesn't work at all. Has anyone heard of this happening before? because i dont want her to waste a bunch of money and just have me throw a new one in there.

sounds like the solenoid that is on the starter which is a common problem on import starters

is the clicking coming from under the dash or the starter?

the starter has 2 wires... one big one for teh battery and one small one.. unplug the small one and get a wire (speaker wire will work) and connect it to the battery.. (make sure your out of gear.. if the car tries to start you know your starter is good

Having a similar problem with my del sol VTEC. I've been through 4 starters with each one failing a month to 2 months after. Be careful with that hot wire trick but let me know if you find anything out. Good luck

Yeah i was thinking it was the solenoid to.. But the click normally indicates the starter solenoid to be energized. i'll have to take some dvm readings to be sure
