Default Is it the starter problem?

HI

I just got a starting problem that my starter does not run at all when the engine is cold(moringing).

I changed a battery with a new one twice!
The only way i can atart the car is to jump-start...one strange thing is the starter worked great and all of sudden gave up cranking..not like people saying that turing key several times to make it work...mine is just not working.

What is it?
P/S: i cleaned and tighten the connection of the battery and the wire...

Check for cracks in the distributer/starter/ etc. The fact that it won't start in the morning perhaps suggests moisture is getting into the system.

Just a guess

more then likely it's your contact inside the starter that isn't making a reliable connection especially in the morning where the battery is at it's lowest. theres a procedure to replacing them with some toyota parts. i havent tried it personally but people who have agreed it works! yeah you read right toyota parts.

I have heard of using Toyato parts for the alternator brushes, but not the starter, thats good news to me.

The next time it wont turn over, take a jumper wire to the starter and see if it cranks. If it does crank, then you have a good starter but another problem, like a bad/maladjusted clutch interlock switch, or weak connection at the starter itself, or your ignition switch is iffy, or your starter relay is giving up the ghost. Just trying to give you a few ideas. Check the push/pull clip on the starter to be sure it is fully connected.

You said that you changed two new batteries, did you have the old ones tested? If your car killed a new battery, it might be an alternator problem, not charging them.

I just had a friend buy a new starter, but it still wouldn't crank, so I showed him his clutch interlock switch, and we pulled the connector, jumped it with a clip, and it roared to life. $22 switch is better than $xxx starter. Good luck.

The old school "redneck" way is great and works everytime, next time you try to start the car have a friend take the end of a long pry bar or something like that and tap pretty hard (don't try to break it though) on the starter solenoid and if it starts then you need either a rebuild or a new starter, if your starter says nippon/denso it is rebuildable otherwise it needs replacement. And even if yours is rebuildable it's possible your actual starter solenoid is bad in which case you still have to replace the starter. Replaceing the starter brushes is easy and cheap ($15.00 and 15mins) so do that first if you are lucky enough to have a nippon/denso. If none of this helps you then damn it! your starter is not the problem! and good luck other wise.
