Default possible starter problem?

ok i've searched and found that most people with a starter issue have the same symptoms if you will as i do. about two weeks ago my car wouldnt start in a parking lot so i happen to be in a hill ( luckily) and i let it roll than dropped the clutch. so i know it's my starter. when i turn the key it click and the radio turns off and everything as if the car is getting ready to crank. now i've read that if i try to tighten up my battery terminals that might work( can anyone vouch for it?) but i need a way to start my car for now without having to push it lol. not even hitting the starter anymore will work. does anyone have any thing to say before i go and buy a whole new one?
