clutch pedal just crapped big time.
im wondering how common it is for the clutch pedal to fail on an ef. i had the car for about a month and it had been kinda hard to start. the clutch had to be pressed HARD on the floor to get it to start, way past normal. anyways, about 2 weeks ago, it seemed like id be working harder to change gears on it, and it got even harder to start until tonight when i guess the bolt slipped a little out of position and it finally gave out. i took a look at it and where the bolt that the pedal pivots on (dont know what to call it) was threaded through, the weld on the pedal assembly failed. ill post pictures once i find my moms camera. anyways, it looks like im either going to have to replace it or ask my uncle to weld it for me. either way ive got some work to do. if it comes down to it and i have to replace the pedal assembly, where should i go? should i get one from the junkyard or should i get one from a honda parts supplier, cuz (after some research) ive decided to go for an h2b swap before next june, so would spending big money on an oem replacement be worth it?
My friends crx dx clutch pedal broke off. I mean he does beat on the clutch pedal alot with his act clutch. He removed the whole pedal assembly and had it rewelded. Sucks but he drives crazy!!!
Its a common problem in cars that haven't even been running aftermarket pressure plates. Bad design alone will do it with a lack fo reinforcement and a general issue with the welds getting crappy over the years, a simple seized input shaft bearing can break this like a hot knife through butter.
They suck to replace too.

Reading comprehension pwns you. It's about the pedal.

I personally would recommend welding support in place if you do go with a new factory piece. I did and still got some squeaking initially, but unlike before, it has not and will not break how I've got it welded.
HAve you EVER even thought
about the clutch cable going bad??
A bad clutch cable would require
excessive force to engage the t/o.
thus putting more stress on your
pedal assembly. Just a thought...

Definitely a good one. Thanks for the tip.
The cable has had a few adjustment issues previously, but installing a new T/O solved the problem for now. I'll look at it later, I'm doing a DA clutch cable for the GSR anyway, so it's just a matter of time really.
Thanks again though!

yeah, im not running any modificatons on my car at all besides an intake. but seeing as its starting to sound like a common problem, ill see if i cant get a replacement for it. about the clutch cable, i was thinking that could have been the problem to start with, then me putting more pressure on it just made the problem worse. ive got some ideas i'd like to test on this, but ill wait till i get pics up to explain...
ok so i just got my broken pedal bracket off. what a pain. actually pretty satisfying now that its off, should be even more so once i get my car started BUT thats not the point of this post. i want to give a heads up to anyone that might be having trouble with the pedal bracket. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1220898 goes to a thread where a god among mortals, DaX wrote up a fully documented walkthru on how to swap out pedal brackets. honestly, i dont know why this isnt a sticky yet. thanks again DaX
actually, my car is bone dead stock. i dont know if it has a more agressive clutch or not (just bought it) and it didnt have more than 160k on it when i bought it. might have been the previous owners son. he drives like an idiot and he's real hard on the pedal. but im going to chok this up to old age and call it a night.
