Default Yet another VTEC related question

Compression: 170 across the board

Engine fully warm, oil topped off.

When I turn the car on now, I hear about 5 audible knocks and then it goes away. The motor has a pretty loud ticking sound right now. It might be that the valve lash is out of spec and I will be adjusting them tomorrow. It might also be the LMA's which I can't really do anything about.

Not only is vtec not working, the car just feels extremely sluggish all around. The piston rings are worn but the compression isn't all that bad.

Also, when it crosses into vtec (4400 rpm), it makes a really nasty noise.

Any thoughts? I'll try to grab a video tomorrow.

compression is kinda low, i think it have to do with the piston ring. and what year is your integra again?

The magnitude of the compression is highly influenced by the gauge. To the OP, did you perform a wet compression test as well by addin about 1 tsp of oil to each cylinder before the test? A significant jump in compression with the oil added identifies bad piston rings.

already verified that the piston rings are worn. blows smoke in vtec and burns oil.

except last night it got worse where the whole car just felt like it had a 68hp crx engine.
