Default gt28rs vs gt2871r

heres the plan i have an old t3/t4e and i dont know what you guys think but i dont like having full spool by 5200 my buddy has a gt28r disco and i feel like every time we mess around i feel like im playing catch-up with him. I mean its fun but i dont really start pulling on him til the end of third and fourth. hes making 211hp and 192tq
me on the other hand am making 276hp and 223tq i know the numbers dont really mean anything but here the plan i need a drop in for me t3t4 so i dont have alot more work and im stuck with the 28rs with .82ar. or 2871r with .63ar......


please guys need some help on this i still really havent gotten enough info to end up spending the money and be back in the same boat....

problem is easily solved, shift into a lower gear :-P

or learn to keep it in boost.

What are you power goals? and current engine setup? Is it built?

8.5/1 wisco egle rods, eagle block guard t3t4 57rim and i cant first to second i drop all the way out of boost and second to third still about 750rpm worth of lag before full spool i mean i have plenty to go with and for some damn reason i cant get the car to FT shift i plan on having about 300 or so DD and around 400 for racing on the weekends and what not and when i move im probably autocross.

Ah. 8.5:1 can seriously hurt acceleration (not power, but acceleration). Bump up your static compression a bit, and in addition to that or similar SIZED turbocharger , you'll do fine.

gt2871rs or gt2871r are perfect for your goal, I'd personally go with the RS because i want more power. But you where already saying something about lag so your best bet would be the gt2871r

the 28rs is a gt2860 not a 2871rs. go with the 2871, the 28rs won't be enough for your goals. I'm in the same boat, I have a gt28rs and I wish I had a gt2871 or a gt30r.

nice thats what i was thinking with the 2871 are you going to get the smaller 63ar or the 84ar or whatever it is i was thinking the 63 because it seems that if you go much bigger that your going to be stuck with all the lag again well where im at with the bigger t3t4

but quick question, isn't the Gt28RS faster spooling than the GT2871? mind you depending on the A/R you go with. cuz I know with the RS you can push a lil bit more power which is why i'm going with it, but I've heard people reaching full boost around 4300 or 4500 which is not that bad. Then again it's my first experience with boost. What do you guys think.

my buddy reaches full spool 13lbs by 4000-4100 or so its ridiculous but yea i was going with the smaller AR 63 t3 exhaust because i deff dont want lag or much and from what i read i think that its full spool by 4500 or so instead of 5400.... plus the torque curve is so much better.... what do you guys think.... by the way when you mean static compression you mean making my compression higher or is there a way you can make the s300 do that i havent really heard of that before....

i'm runing a gsr botom b16 head gsr cams. with 28rs and i see 10.5psi by 3800. i am using the ATP T3 housing with the .82 a/r i have not gone to the dyno yet though. I may dyno and see i'm not far from my goal.

so does anyone have any dyno plots or anything for the d16 ive looked at evanstuning a little but nothing on the 2871 just the 2860rs

^^^ if you feel like waiting a couple of weeks, ill have a dyno graph of the 2871r with the .86ar on the t25 housing. this turbo will be on a laskey racing built d16. ill post up when i get it to the dyno

Not many D-series out there aiming for powerband and response.. Most guys are having enough trouble just to make good numbers...

You can check out my B-series... but my setup is way different than what you are aiming for. Mine is about response, traction, and being able to have a car that runs similar to an NA engine but with more useable power.

well see at 21lbs i made 386hp and 294tq im done with that because its only from 5100 making 235tq to redline at 6895 where shes runs out of steem since i dont have a cam i want something where i dont have to do much more head work.

so i think i read somewhere that the 2871r is pretty much the same at the gt3071 because i have to have the t3 exhaust side. is this true can anyone tell me what this is or put any truth behind it...
