Default CEL Code 6: ECT - JDM doesn't have one?!?!

I am getting a CEL code 6, the Engine Coolant Sensor. I was under the impression that JDM H22s don't have the front top radiator hose sensor like my h23 does. Using a jdm p13, why would it even be looking for one?

Even if I switch it over, the harness doesn't have the plug anyways.... anyone know?

You are wrong. JDM H22 doesn't have a secondary thermoswitch but ECT is on its place as usual. Take a look under the distributor and here it is.

So if I am pulling that code its not that I don't have it or thats it's not hooked up, it's that it is probably a faulty sensor?

Dude are you talking about the little coolant sensor in the front top radiator elbow that enters the motor??? There's no sensor on the JDM models... I got the same exact code and I had a plug in my harness that was left over... I was using a USDM H22 harness.... are you?? Or are you using a JDM harness with an adapter?

All I did was take the elbow off of my H23, get a gasket, and put it on..... Same exact fitting and it worked beautifully.... No code 6 anymore...

The harness came with my swap. So I assume it is a JDM harness, but I don't know how to make sure. I have the elbow sensor waiting at home, but when I look for the connector coming off the harness, it is not there, so I don't want to install it. Plus why would the JDM P13 be even looking for that elbow sensor to begin with?

I am thinking maybe my primary sensor is just bad....

Your ECT sensor is on the head under the distributor. You are talking about a switch on the coolant inlet elbow that is unrelated to you CEL 6. But you are correct about the the JDM harness not having the sensor for the coolant elbow switch although you should just be using your existing harness.

The ECT is the sensor with a white connector housing on it, screwed into the side of the head. That is what your problem is. The switches on the front and rear water jackets are fan switches.

So what exactly are you saying? My ECT is bad, and throwing a code 6.

On another note when I turn my car off, the radiator fan runs for 15 minutes. The engine could be cold, or I can even just turn the accessories on, turn the key off, and the fan will run. Is that because I am missing the elbow connector?

Oddly enough the fan running doesn't pull any charge off the battery....but it still doesn't make sense to me...

fans draw current. thats why your idle dips when the fans click on while the car is running.

I just fixed a friend's car who what the EXACT same symptoms, I think you have that sensor hooked up wrong, or its just horribly bad.

What did you do to fix your friends? It pulls current, but not much, and the battery charge actually goes back up once it's done...

ect sensor is on the side of the head, the same side as the transmission. It screws into the head.
