I know that spools are used to lock axle shaft together. Is it a bad or good idea to just throw in a spool instead of LSD to a tranny? what would you guys recomend? T.I.A.

there a cheap alternative but there for total track use. the steering is to screwy for the street

 

The biggest drawback is if you break an axle you instantly get all your power to the other wheel.That can mean over the centerline or into the wall.But at least if you don't crash you can still drive into the pits.And you will break driveline parts driving on the street.

 

skidding tires around every corner = bad idea.
