Default OBX lsd questions

I am making another thread in FI asking the same thing because I am not getting much help in Tech. This is on a built turbo motor afterall...

When I got the lsd, I opened it up and to clean it and put it back together according to the “how to field-strip…” thread. When doing so I noticed that I actually had 7 washers instead of 6 and both the axle gears and washer sleeves were identical. I figured this was not that big of a deal at the time so I put it back together along with the 7 washers like this ()()()(. Now with the lsd in the tranny and in the car the passenger side axle will go in as far as I could get it but I can pull it out by hand. I don’t think it is going in far enough to catch the clip on the end of the axle shaft. Was the lsd messed up to begin with? Should I of had taken the extra washer out? Or do I need to pound the axle in more…I think its as far as it will go.

i don;t think the washers woudl have casued this. are you sure your properly seating the axle into the diff? you have to use the axel weight to rock and kinda gently pound it into the diff. the snapring at the end of the axle is what keeps it in there but also is what helps cause it to have a slight issue going in.

anyway, let us know the outcome and hope this helps.

I spent half the day on sunday and most of last night trying. I kept trying to hammer it in but it doesn't budge. its slides in very easily and then I slam it in and it sounds like it seated but it just slides back out like nothing.

before you start tearing things apart, try a new circle clip on the end of your axle.

Yea I dont think the washers have anything to do with it. I had 5 by the way lol they must have given you one of mine.

If the axle gear isnt right that could have something to do with it. I don't remember if my 2 axle gears were the same but I think the internals differed slightly from that other thread. Remember thats a d series diff (assuming ur b).

Thats what I was thinking it might be since it was pretty easy to compress and butt it together. Its the same autozone axle I was using before the new build and it keeps popping out of its inner joint so I am going to get a free replacement with the new clip.

I did not realize that thread was for a D series. I've just been worried about it since its my first lsd install. Hopefully (crossing fingers) I dont have to pull the tranny and take it apart because something is not right.

By the way, when you tighten everything down on the lsd did it still rattle when you shook it? I'm thinking its just the spiral gears moving around some.

well, I went to get a new axle and same thing happens. It will not go all the way in. The part of the axle shaft where it gets bigger is already hitting the diff. It sounds like its going all the way in but I can still pull it out by hand. What would happen if I leave it without it locked in?

I test fitted mine w/my axles to make sure everything was ok before I installed it.

I suggest you doing the same..something tells me it's one of those stupid mistakes (no disrespect)

I might have to do that. I am going to try pounding it in some more before I open the tranny back up again.
