ok heres the deal.... i just traded my 89 Si for a 93 CX... but the CX is gutless!!!!! my brother has a single cam VTEC motor from his 94 Si hatch with spun bearing in it... can i use the head and manifolds off that on my CX motor?

 

hmmm...i know you can do a mini me swap...but ive heard of doing it with the d16y7 and the d16y8 head....not sure exactly what you need to do it...try the search for mini me swap.

 

yeah, it would be better to swap in a d16z6 because that cx engine is only 1.5 liters and the z6 is 1.6 liters.

 

if that cx has a d15b8 8 valve engine dont use anything from it. swap the complete z6... if your brother wont give you the head, your better off with a non vtec head than the one you have. but this is only relivant if it is a d15b8

 

Well zero not to be a jerk but you are wrong, if done correctly you can yeild more horsepower from a mini-me swap than just doing a full swap do to the increase in compression. check this website for info

i understand that, but if its the 8 valve head he is putting on... the z6 has a 16 valve engine. not to mention the z6 has larger valves.

read his post and you will see he is doing the oppostie of a mini me, by using a 1.6 bottom end and a head designed for fuel economy.

 

dont use a 8 valve block unless u put 16 valve pistons in it..with a 16v head swap. if u dont u will have pistons with only 2 valve reliefs per cylinder when the head calls for 4 per cyl.

 

Just drop in a d16z motor and tranny. You can find them as cheap as $350 for both motor and tranny.

 

i did this swap a year ago, the cx's have 4 valve reliefs per cylinder, even though the head only has 8 valves. Just yank the head off and you will see. My recommendation though is that if you do the swap, you will need the tranny b/c that cx tranny will kill any power you get. But definitely do the mini me! i could eat gsr's all day long w/the mini me and i/h/e. It was a torquey little sob
